BOTANICAL MEDICINE

Botanical medicine, also known as herbal medicine, is the safe and effective use of plants to treat various diseases. Plants have as been used for medicinal purposes long before conventional care was developed. Some of the earliest writings of using plants for medicine date back to ancient Chinese and Egyptian empires in the year 3,000 BC.

HOW IT WORKS

These medicinal practices involve extracting specific constituents (molecules or compounds) form plant seeds, berries, roots, leaves, barks, flowers, rhizomes, or other parts. Depending on the type of plant, different extraction methods are required to optimize constituent potency. Common forms of botanical medicine involve tinctures, powders, pills, or ointments (topical preparations).

Almost ¼ of pharmaceutical drugs are derived from botanicals.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS

Similar to modern pharmacology, when plant medicines are used correctly, they are effective at treating a variety of conditions. However, when used incorrectly there can be side effects, drug-plant interactions, and worsening of conditions / diseases.

That is why it is so important to consult a qualified healthcare practitioner who is highly trained in botanical medicine AND modern pharmacology.
