Chelation Therapy
A safe and effective option to remove toxic metals and other toxic compounds from the body, aiding the restoration of health.
HOW IT WORKS
Understanding Chelation Therapy
What is Chelation Therapy?
Derived from the Greek word ‘chele’, which is translated to a ‘crab claw’, chelation refers to the process of one compound strongly binding another. Chelation Therapy requires careful administered, either intravenously or orally, to remove harmful toxic components from the body.
These toxic compounds have been studied in the context of cellular functions disruption and their potential to increase the risk for many chronic diseases.
How Chelation Therapy Works
Once administered, the agent can bind and neutralize toxic compounds such as heavy metals like lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, and aluminum or meta-static calcium (calcium deposits out of the bone such as in blood vessels or muscles).
These heavy metals have been studied for their wide range of associated health issues including but not limited to hormone imbalances, autoimmune disorders, cardiovascular disease, and age-related conditions such as dementia.
They are also potentially capable of binding to DNA and eliciting a mutagenic effect (damaging DNA) which can contribute to diseases like Cancer.
Our Approach
Our clinic provides access to discussions about integrative modalities such as Chelation Therapy. When appropriate, these therapies may be explored in collaboration with each patient’s care team.
We do not claim Chelation Therapy is a treatment or cure for any disease. Instead, our role is to educate, inform, and support patients who wish to understand the range of integrative approaches that are being studied internationally and used in an integrative setting to best achieve their health goals.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Many patients are curious about Chelation Therapy as an integrative option to their care. Explore the top five most asked questions.
Is Chelation Therapy harmful?
Chelation Therapy, when administered improperly or by a non-trained healthcare practitioner, can pose significant side effects. It is important to receive Chelation Therapy from licensed and certified Chelation practitioners.
How long does a Chelation Therapy session last?
A typical session at Radiant Health & Wellness takes approximately two to three hours.
What are the side effects of Chelation Therapy?
Many Chelating compounds will bind both toxic compounds and normal minerals or nutrients in the body (including, but not limited to, magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, copper, and glutathione). At Radiant Health & Wellness, we recognize the importance of nutrient re-mineralization infusions and oral nutrients to mitigate these losses and reduce the risk of side effects or nutrient depletion.
How many sessions will I need?
Chelation Therapy typically involves ten to thirty infusions to remove heavy metals. At Radiant Health & Wellness, we often combine Chelation Therapy with other therapies to shorten this time and achieve results that are, if not better, at least as good as those from Chelation Therapy alone. Can I take my supplements on my Chelation IV days?
No. The standard of practice would suggest not taking oral nutrient therapies, as they may reduce the efficacy of Chelation Therapy. For more information about what can and cannot be mixed with Chelation Therapy, please consult one of our licensed Naturopathic Doctors.
