DR. KIERAN AVLONTIS

B.Sc, ND

Clinic Associate

Dr. Kieran Avlonitis empowers his patients to redefine life beyond their diagnosis and to achieve individualized autonomy by offering evidence-based and integrative treatments. His academic journey began at the University of British Columbia (Okanagan), where he completed his B.Sc. in Medical and Molecular Biochemistry. During that time, he managed the Health Living Integrated Learning Community (ILC) – a group of nearly 50 students who lived in an on-campus residence building and had a collective interest in health and wellness.

In 2024, Dr. Kieran Avlonitis received his Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (Boucher) in Vancouver, BC. During his 4th year, he was fortunate enough to be accepted as a Naturopathic Medical Intern at Port Moody Health – Integrative Cancer Care, learning from Dr. Sharon Gurm ND FABNO. Here he learned the magnitude of benefit patients with cancer can experience through the use of integrative medicine. After that, he knew his calling was to practice integrative oncology, empowering people to take back their health and redefine their life beyond their diagnosis.

WHEN HE’S WORKING

Dr. Kieran Avlonitis is a member of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians (OncANP), Alberta Association of Naturopathic Doctors (AAND), and College of Naturopathic Doctors of Alberta (CNDA). He is board certified in intravenous therapies, ozone therapy, and chelation therapy. By combining these therapies with lifestyle modifications, oral supplementation, other naturopathic modalities, and conventional care – he achieves an individualized and integrative approach to each of his patients. To him, this approach bridges-the-gap between conventional care and alternative medicine, achieving the best possible outcome. Although Dr. Kieran Avlonitis’ primary focus is integrative oncology, he is also interested in athletic performance optimization, sports injury prevention and treatment, male fertility, and longevity.

A typical session will include taking a detailed history of your chief concern(s), performing indicated physical exams, ordering standard and advanced lab work, understanding your goals, and creating a comprehensive and individualized treatment plan that is both effective and safe.

WHEN HE’S NOT WORKING

Dr. Kieran Avlonitis enjoys weight lifting and most forms of physical exercise. He is the creator of Project Hercules, a virtual curriculum to build mental resilience and overcome most challenges that life throws your way. For nearly a decade he has practiced daily intermittent fasting and conducted extensive research on cancer prevention, athletic excellence, and principles to promote longevity.

“One of the most important things to me is family. Every Sunday, I enjoy family dinners and experimenting in the kitchen with new recipes!“ – Dr. K

For balance, he unwinds with a daily meditation, journaling, and yoga practices.

WHAT SPARKED HIS INTEREST IN THE HEALING ARTS

“Before starting my internship in integrative oncology with Dr. Gurm, I precepted at her clinic (basically shadowing appointments). I will never forget my first appointment with her and how powerful the experience was for me. It was a follow up between her and a long standing patient. The patient was an elderly woman and to fill me in, Dr. Gurm asked the patient to tell me about her cancer journey. She was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer which had metastasized to her liver, lungs, lumbar and thoracic spine, and various lymph nodes in her abdomen. BC cancer had given her 6 months to live. I remember vividly saying “I’m so sorry” to which her response was shocking. “Don’t you worry, darling” she responded. Turns out, the original diagnoses was over 6 years ago and during this follow up she had no evidence of disease on any repeat scan or lab work.

She was not a candidate for most conventional care and achieved the vast majority of her benefit through integrative approaches. I do not often recommend people deviate from the conventional path, but I do recommend an integrative approach to most diseases – not only cancer. Once I had witnessed the true benefit to integrative cancer therapies, I knew it was my calling. Well…actually it felt like my responsibility to help as many people through this disease as possible.”
