CURCUMIN
Curcumin is the main constituent in Turmeric. It is a polyphenol (antioxidant) that is extracted from the rhizome of the plant and has a poor bioavailability when administered orally. At Radiant Health & Wellness, our Naturopathic Doctors use synergistic compounds to improve Curcumin’s oral bioavailability as well as intravenous preparations to bypass the gastrointestinal tract altogether.
HOW IT WORKS
Curcumin acts as an antioxidant to decrease inflammation and decrease cellular oxidative damage. This improves many cellular functions and helps it modulate pain symptoms. It also has the ability to modulate the immune system (helps improve low immune function while decreasing overreacting immune function).
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS
- Metabolic syndrome: Due to Curcumin’s antioxidant effects and affinity to the cardiovascular system, it can help protect against cardiovascular disease and other metabolic syndrome complications.
- Autoimmune disease: Due to Curcumin’s ability to modulate the immune system, an overactive immune system can be regulated and this can result in improved symptoms of various autoimmune diseases.
- Arthritis: Due to Curcumin’s anti-inflammatory effects, it can decrease pain associated with the musculoskeletal system.
- Cancer: Currently according to Cancer.gov, Curcumin is not recommended as solo therapy for cancer treatment. However, Curcumin can offer benefits within an integrative approach to cancer care. At Radiant Health & Wellness, we recognize when curcumin therapy can be used effectively and safely within your cancer journey and can assess your candidacy for such integrative therapies alongside standard of care.
What a treatment session looks like
A typical infusion lasts +90 minutes. During the appointment a qualified healthcare professional will access a vein to administer the Curcumin. At radiant health & wellness we use health canada approved equipment and a clean-field technique to minimize risk of infection and complications. Vitals are performed prior to each infusion and patients can relax in one of our comfortable reclining chairs and enjoy complimentary tea and coffee.
