ANDROPAUSE
Andropause, also known as late-onset hypogonadism, is a gradual decrease in the body’s testosterone level with older age. This is characterized by a series of physical, psychological, and sexual change in men starting around 45 years of age.
Testosterone is a hormone found in both men and women and plays a predominant role in muscle mass formation, sperm production, sexual health, and secondary sex characteristics. Secondary sex characteristic include body hair distribution, a lower voice, and increased muscle mass.
Not all men are affected by andropause and if experienced, not all men will experience andropause the same. However, andropause can lead to significant decrease in quality of life in many men.
