CFS & FYBROMYALGIA

Although very different conditions, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and Fibromyalgia (FM) have many overlapping physiologic components.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome otherwise known as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) affects about 1-2% of the Canadian population (450,000+ people). Typically people with CFS have cognitive impairment, mitochondrial abnormalities, genetic mutations, increased inflammation, and immune dysregulation.

Fibromyalgia affects 1-2% of the Canadian population (550,000+ people) and shares many components with CFS.

Contributions to CFS and FM include environmental toxins, chronic inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, and mitochondrial dysfunction.

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS

  1. Fatigue
  2. Sleep impairment
  3. Chronic Pain
  4. Neurologic symptoms
  5. Frequent infections

DIAGNOSTICS

Typically these conditions are considered a diagnosis of exclusion – meaning that other potential causes of the symptoms you are experiencing requires ruling-out before a diagnosis can be made.

Since there is no single marker that can be measured to confirm or deny your diagnosis of CFS/ME or FM, a detailed health questionnaire is typically used alongside basic laboratory testing.

  1. Complete blood count (CBC) with differential
  2. CRP
  3. ESR
  4. Total protein and albumin
  5. Alkaline phosphatase
  6. Calcium
  7. Phosphorus
  8. Glucose
  9. Electrolyte panel
  10. Creatinine
  11. TSH or thyroid panel
  12. Urinalysis
  13. Vitamin D

Additional testing can be used to determine contributive factors and lead to a targeted approach. Please contact the Radiant Health & Wellness Clinic to inquire about additional testing we offer.
